yugofuturism

Welcome to the Yugofuturist manifesto communal writing page. The purpose of this page is to collectively envision Yugofuturism as an imaginary of the improbable or even the impossible, as the creation of a collection of concepts, slogans and ideas and their connections. It is a polemical, horizontal and utopian-democratic field of joint creation. It is a micro-cyberutopia in the midst of a dystopian monopolized internet landscape.

Every registered guest can contribute directly to the content of the Manifesto. You can create a new concept, or add to or rework an existing one and link it to other concepts.

Yugofuturism is a work in progress which is open for you to help build. It is not a definition, but a proposal, that emerged from dissatisfaction of the people from the former Yugoslavia’s post-socialist region, who feel that not only because of the omnipresent long dark nigh of neoliberal capitalist realism, but especially due to their respective national state’s peripheral economic or/and political realities, they have no future (there). This was mostly not the case in the Socialist Federative Republic of Yugoslavia, where people may have lacked things, but not the future, which they were building together. The future has since been eliminated, the mythological temporalization of progression is gone for good, dystopian endings of history are not only possible, but likely and calculable. This results in cynicism, depression, and despair. The proposal of Yugofuturism is not nostalgic in a way that it would be wanting back a country or a political regime, more so, it is nostalgic of the feeling of having a (worthy) future at all as a pleasurable affect that activates rather than passivizes. Its conceptualization is a mutual project of imagining the unlikely and even impossible futures which are present as fictions or potentialities of the rumours found in the collective consciousness. It does not matter if something like that ever before existed or not. It is a theoretical and artistic youth work action, where the action itself may alone be the aim or what is to be built.
